Nunzio Abbate Senior Director, SRA Systems Lab STMicroelectronics
Nunzio Abbate is Senior Director of the Systems Lab.
Abbate began his career as a Production Engineer at FIAT Auto (Stellantis) . He joined STMicroelectronics in 1999 and soon moved to the Microcontroller Division as Product Engineering Manager.
In 2005, Abbate was appointed Automation, Robotics & Transportation Manager, Systems Lab, leading the development of turnkey system solutions for Industrial Automation and e-Mobility, and coordinating corporate programs on Hybrid Electric Vehicles, Drives and High-Power solutions, Industrial Automation and Robotics applications.
In 2013, he was appointed General Manager of the Systems Lab, and contributed to the product definition and business growth of ST’s Power technologies, mechatronic “Application-Specific Integrated Modules” SPIMD20, iNEMO™ MEMS devices and applications, “STEVAL” and “X-Nucleo” STM32 development kits for rapid prototyping solutions. He also contributed to programs (with responsibility for related business) focusing on “automated highway toll payment systems” and “localization”, of vehicles and people, as well as condition-based monitoring/predictive maintenance and industrial automation programs in general, in the early phase of the IIoT (Industrial Internet of Things) ecosystem.
In addition, Abbate has set up strong relationships with external R&D Centers and co-design programs with Key Customers. It's part of ST Chief Innovation Office and coordinate several ST "Open Innovation" initiatives.
He holds industrial patents in Europe and the U.S., and has co-authored several scientific papers on Robotics, Industrial Automation, Human-Machine Interaction and Automotive. He has served as Chairman of the Manufacturing & Robotics Working Group at the European Platform on Smart Systems (EPOSS), and as an Italian delegate at the World MicroMachine Summit. He is also a member and Vice President of the Board of Directors at the Italian Ministry of Economic Development (MiSE) Competence Center “ARTES 4.0”.
Nunzio Abbate was born in Catania, Italy in 1969, and graduated in Electronic Engineering.
